Read MoreI mean I was born a doodler. I doodled all over my homework and notebooks. But after awhile I didn’t think my doodles looked good. Like you know how a drawing can be ugly but in a cool way and that’s somehow different than an obviously amateur drawing? I’m not sure if there is a quantifiable thing that makes one cool and one amateur, maybe it’s 100% subjective and non artists can’t tell the difference.
Read MoreDaniel Smith claims that their Extra Fine TM Gouache has “Exceptional lightfastness and pure, natural opacity”, meaning there are no opacifiers. Out of the tube, the paints are very creamy. In my experience, Windsor Newton paint sometimes come out of the tube with a consistency of tomato paste or a wet turd. These paints are more usable straight from the tube.
Read MoreRecently a high school student asked me to answer some questions for them. I’ve had this request a few times, and since I am not a very busy or important person (who likes talking about herself) I don’t mind doing it. But this request came with such interesting and nice questions, that I asked for permission to repurpose their interview for a blog post. If any other future students have a similar assignment, feel free to use this post as your submission. I never know if these students are genuinely fans, or if they just googled me up. Either way, it still feels nice to share my knowledge and hopefully save the future generation of artists some of the growing pains I experienced.
